first_imgThe Liberia Athletics Federation’s (LAF) Elections Commission has released guidelines for the elections of the federation, which is scheduled on Saturday, November 25.The elections are part of the LAF’s 59th General Assembly, which will bring together members of the Executive Committee and two representatives each from the six registered clubs, and will be held at the offices of the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC), on Randall Street, Monrovia.The elections of officers for the next quadrennial which begins 2018 to 2022, are in consonance with the By-laws and Constitution of the LAF, and that of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).Cllr. Sylvester Rennie is the chairman of the 3-man Elections Commission. Cllr. Rennie is a member of the LAF Executive Committee and the Vice President for Administration of the Liberia National Olympics Committee (LNOC).The elections guidelines were released on Friday, November 9 and are expected to be posted at the LAF, LNOC offices, among others.According to the guidelines, the positions to be contested are President, Vice President for Administration, Vice President for Technical Affairs, Financial Secretary and Treasurer.Their nonrefundable registration fees are US$300, US$250 and US$200 respectively.“Only institutions and individuals who are qualified as per the listing of the Liberia Alethic Federation (LAF) shall be eligible to contest. In the case of the individual, he/she can contest for one of the positions; and in the case of the institutions, each institution is also allowed to field a single candidate to contest for one of the positions.“There shall be no proxy voting and voting shall be done through secret ballot,” according to the guidelines.Registration for applicants wishing to contest any of the Positions during the LAF General Assembly scheduled for Saturday, November 25, begins from Wednesday, November 8, and ends on Monday, November 20, at 6 pm.The list of eligible candidates will be published by the LAF Elections Commission on Tuesday, November 21, at the LAF’s offices on Randal Street, Monrovia, and in some local newspapers.“Each qualified candidate will be required to send a passport size photo to have same placed on the ballot.“Campaign for the LAF’s Elections begins Tuesday, November 21, and ends on Friday, November 24, by midnight.“The LAF Elections Commission will also publish the list of qualified voters on Wednesday, November 15, at the LAF’s Offices on Randal Street, Monrovia, and in some local newspapers.”The guidelines further said: “Theme counting of the ballots begins immediately after the close of the polls, and each candidate is requested to send the name of one representative during the voting, counting of ballots and announcement of the results. The elections results will be immediately announced after the counting of the ballots. Any candidate who has a complaint to be filed after the elections results are announced must do so within five (5) minutes following the announcement of the results, along with a non-refundable fee of US$200. Upon receipt of the complaint, the LAF Elections Commission will immediately probe into such a complaint and make a determination thereto.“If a candidate has any complaint prior to the voting process, said a candidate is also allowed to file such complaint to the LAF Elections Commission, with a non-refundable fee of US$200. And upon receipt of said complaint and fees, the LAF Elections Commission will immediately probe into same and come out with its finding, before proceeding with the voting process.”Also, according to the guidelines, all eligible voters, be it individuals, or institutions, are entitled to one vote during the voting process.
